Co interior angles is the name given to a pair of angles between a transversal and the pair of parallel lines it cuts. Co interior angles are both on the same side of the transversal and are the two angles between the parallel lines. Co interior angles add up to 180o. They are supplementary angles – if you put them next to each other, they would make a straight line.
This angle fact about co interior angles, as well as rules about other types of angles and other angle relationships, can be used to find the size of missing angles on a diagram.
This rule about co interior angles also implies that any two neighbouring angles in a parallelogram add up to 180o and therefore that the size of the angles opposite each other is equal. A rectangle is a special type of parallelogram where all four angles are right angles.
Looking forward, students can then progress to additional angles in parallel lines worksheets or more geometry worksheets, for example an angles in polygons worksheet or an alternate angles worksheet.
