Alternate angles is the name given to two angles on alternate sides of a transversal line which cuts a pair of parallel lines. There are alternate interior angles and alternate exterior angles. Alternate angles are often identified by drawing a z shape over a set of parallel lines and the transversal.
For pairs of angles which are alternate, the size of the angles is equal. This rule on alternate angles, along with other angle facts such as opposite angles being equal and corresponding angles being equal, can be used to find the size of missing angles in a diagram.
Looking forward, students can then progress to additional angles worksheets and other geometry worksheets, for example an angles in polygons worksheet or volume and surface area of spheres worksheet.
