A locus is a set of points that follow a certain rule. To be able to draw loci we need to be confident with a number of constructions which can be drawn using a ruler and a pair of compasses. These include an angle bisector, the perpendicular bisector of a line and the perpendicular to a line at a given point.
We might, for example, be asked to draw the locus of points equidistant from the two points a and b. The loci would be the perpendicular bisector of the line segment between a and b. To bisect the straight line ab, we would use a pair of compasses and a ruler and follow the method for constructing a perpendicular bisector. It is important to leave all construction lines visible when drawing constructions so that your method is clear.
Looking forward, students can then progress to additional geometry worksheets, for example a 3D shapes worksheet or area of a triangle worksheet.
