Vertically opposite angles are a pair of angles directly opposite each other between two intersecting lines. Vertically opposite angles are equal in size.
Wherever two lines cross, there will be a pair of vertical angles. This rule, along with other angle facts, can be used to find missing angles in 2D shapes and other problems involving calculating angles. Often a problem will require the use of more than one angle rule to find the required unknown angle.
You should not need to use a protractor to determine angles that are vertically opposite when using this angle fact.
Looking forward, students can then progress to additional angles rules worksheets and other geometry worksheets, for example an angles in polygons worksheet or volume and surface area of spheres worksheet.
