The reciprocal of a number, also called the multiplicative inverse, is 1 divided by the number. It can also be found by raising the number to the power of −1. The reciprocal of a fraction is found by flipping the fraction so the numerator (the top number) and denominator (the bottom number) swap places.
This can be applied to whole numbers by first writing them as a fraction over 1. Finding the reciprocal of a fraction is useful when dividing fractions as it allows you to flip the second fraction and then change the divide sign to a multiply sign.
Looking forward, students can then progress to additional number worksheets, for example a Surds worksheet or a Simple Interest worksheet.
