Darren Madourie, Head of Year 11 and Maths Teacher
Holte School
We were keen to bridge the maths attainment gap among our pupils and having seen the intervention Third Space Learning offers, we knew it was the right route for us.
We selected students from KS3 and KS4 and they started their personalised programme with Third Space Learning in January 2022. After only a few weeks, we saw significant progress.
Our SLT is really impressed with the sessions provided by Third Space Learning.
The feedback from SLT has been fantastic. The Head of Mathematics popped into a session and was blown away by what he saw. Our Deputy Headteacher also attended a session and said how fantastic it was to see how engaged each student was with their tutor and learning.
Most importantly, the students are enjoying their one to one sessions.
They love the time they have with their tutors and word is getting out throughout their peers that the programme is fantastic.
“A few students who have been on the programme from the beginning have already been moved up into a higher set of mathematics. This is heartwarming for me because they’re now in my class, giving me the opportunity to monitor them more closely. It gives me a better idea of what objectives to set for them so I’m really thrilled.”
After seeing how effective the GCSE sessions are, we’re expanding our Third Space Learning sessions to Year 12 and 13.
Our Sixth Form Lead was so impressed with the support Third Space Learning offers that we decided to offer sessions to our Sixth Form students who are resitting their GCSE exams as a result – we think they will really benefit from the tuition.
I first found Third Space Learning through their free online resources.
I have been really impressed with the quality of resources available through Third Space Learning and have been using them in my maths classes. They were particularly useful when helping my students prepare for their exams.
Having access to resources that go as far back as Year 1 is invaluable.
I have seen nothing but great things from Third Space Learning since introducing them at Holte, especially considering we will have nearly 200 primary pupils joining us in September who will be well below where they should be.
I believe Third Space Learning can be integral to the long term development of our maths department.
Sessions are going remarkably well. The reports are invaluable and are really useful to show the progress of each student and how effective the programme is. My Headteacher has an idea of where he wants provisions such as this to go and no doubt ringfence funding for interventions like Third Space Learning.
