Intersecting lines at a glance
Intersecting lines are pairs of lines which intersect. If two lines in a plane are parallel lines, they will never intersect. All other pairs of lines will intersect. Perpendicular lines are lines which intersect at right angles.
We can find the point of intersection of two given lines graphically, by plotting both lines on the same set of axes. We can also find the point of intersection of two lines algebraically, by solving their equations simultaneously.
To determine what types of lines we have (intersecting, parallel, or perpendicular), we can examine the gradients of the lines. If the gradients are equal, the lines are parallel. If the product of the gradients is -1, they intersect and are perpendicular. All other combinations of gradients will give intersecting lines.
